Central’s Boys’ Golf team has proved to be immense competition this year. Made up of a diverse population of freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the golf team worked hard to perform extremely well. The whole season consisted of 12 wins, 4 losses, and 1 Public League Champion title.
On October 7, Central Golf won the Public League Championship by exactly one stroke. Masterman’s final score was 425, Philadelphia Academy Charter finished with a score of 406, and Central won with an impressive 405 strokes. The victory symbolized all the effort the team put into each practice and match this season. On how the team felt about their season and performance on the green, Sam Greene (275) said, “Today capped off a blast of a season. We really came together as a team and we’re Philadelphia Public League champs, baby!”
Sam hit a 20-foot putt on hole 18 to birdie the last hole. Along with Sam, Kyle Spaulding (275), PJ Lorenc (275) and Zaire Meredith (276) had the lowest scores on the team. Sam ended with 95 strokes, Kyle with 93, PJ with 106, and Zaire with 111. Districts are on October 13 and the team is going back to work to prepare, after a little celebrating of course. It is perhaps immature to toot our victorious Lancer-horn in the presence of some choice Dragons, but…toot toot away.
