Similar to the rest of the female sports teams, the Central Girl’s Basketball team, dubbed the “Lady Lancers,” is not one to deviate from its pattern of success. The team is lead by Coach Ashley Morris, a former class member of 263. She recorded over 1000 points in her high school career and went onto play for Temple University’s Basketball Program. With the tough motivation of their coach, and the profound leadership of their two captains, Djavon Dupree (276) and Andria Stanton (276), the team has the expectation of achieving their ultimate goal: Winning the Public League Championship. “We are going to be a very different team on the court this year compared to last. This year, our team has already started getting better with each day passing. The Central Lady Lancers are ready for the upcoming season. We are determined to bring pride to our school, our coach, and most importantly ourselves.” Comments Amber Dilks (277).
After a disappointing loss to Imhotep High School in the semifinals last year, the team’s drive to obtain victory has only increased. “I’m very excited for this season. We lost key players but we have gained many more. The best part about this team is that we are willing to work to be successful. I’m very excited for this season. Basketball is my favorite season!” Adds captain, Djavon Dupree (276). With the memory of last season’s defeat ever-present, the team has been putting extra hours into practice in preparation for the season, and with every practice, the team becomes more and more ready to face what lies ahead. “We gel together very well and we’re growing every single time we step into the gym together,” said captain Andria Stanton (276). “We have a great group of girls this year and it really feels like a family to me. From coach, every player, even our managers and practice players. We all work hard and work together to bring out the best in each other, and hopefully we can showcase the potential I know that we have.”
The Lady Lancers begin their pursuit of a championship on December 14th against Academy of Palumbo.
